Turned wooden base with spiralling metal shafts. An adjustable prong to the side to move the candle up and down.

These sorts of holders would have been used to help understand time, almost like an alarm, specifically… to fathers, whose daughters were out courting. Adjusting the height specifically allowed them to time the length of the company spent with a suitor. Hence the Nick name “courting candle holders”.

Ideal for wax play, to set a romantic scene or just as pretty a bedside accessory.

Courting candle stick holder pair. Circa 19th century.

  • Measurements - height - 22cm. Base width - 11cm
