Many of these postcards presented scantily dressed women. With so many images uncredited for legal reasons, it is challenging to identify whether these were the first of a set of images that may have included full nude sequences. These were illegal to send via post and were often purchased under the counter and kept close to hand.
A large number of studios would use scenery, painted back drops and props in an attempt to legitimise their work as art. Somethings never change, sadly I feel as though, 100 years on, a large number of us still feel the need to do so…
